Skin hydration is something about which people are getting more and more aware of and so does its importance. But we see people with dry skin accentuate skin hydration more than people with oily skin. But in fact, oily skin also needs hydration as much as dry skin.

What is Skin Hydration?

So, before we get into the real talk, first, let's understand what skin hydration really means. We are not talking about drinking more water here, sure that helps to some extent, but that’s not what we can entirely depend on when we are talking about skin hydration.

Hydration can be summed up as when your skin absorbs moisture from the air and mix it with the water cells in your skin and lock it on your skin or that part of the skin. Most of the skin hydrators contain glycerin and hyaluronic acid which helps in absorbing the water from the surroundings or from your skin and grips it to that portion of your skin.

On a side note, if you are confused about your skin type, here’s the best way to find out:

Wash your face with a cleanser and do not put anything after. If your skin feels tight and dry that means you have dry skin and if it feels oily and shiny then it means it is oily. If some part of your face feels tight and some part feels oily then it can be a combination skin type.

Apart from the type of skin you have; hydration is important for all skin types. Just as your body needs water, your skin also needs water. This is a basic thing which we all are aware of. But what most of us do not realize is when you have oily skin, hydration is more and more important for you.

If your skin is already greasy and you are not giving it enough water, and only washing your face, what happens is your face will produce oil on its own. There are glands in the pores on your face which will produce sebum to remove the dryness on your face. Because you already have oily skin, which means your pores are larger than others, and that causes excess oiliness on your face.

Hydrating your skin will feed the need for water and oil for your skin and stop these glands from producing any excess oil and lock the pours.

Hydration makes your face look youthful, plump, soft, and rejuvenated.

So now you know why hydration is essential for your skin. Now let’s find out how and where you will be getting this hydration. There are plenty of natural and medical ways to feed hydration to your skin.

Ways to Hydrate your skin:

1. First and the most important step to get good glowy and hydrated skin is to drink the right amount of water daily. If your body is dehydrated, it will surely be visible on your skin.

2. Avoid long hot showers. Sure, it is relaxing to take a hot shower after a long tiring day but hot water dries your skin and again, it is a signal for the glands to fulfill the need for oils. So, all in all, hot water is harmful to your skin.

3. Use hydrating skincare products. Products that contain glycerin, ceramides, hyaluronic acid, lactic acid, etc. Products that contain these ingredients are good sources of hydration for your skin.

4. Eat water-rich food. Your diet plays a very extensive role in your skincare. Whatever products you put on your face, if your diet is not supporting them, the result will always be unsatisfying. If you want the best results out of the products you use, your diet should be accordingly.

5. Use facial sheet masks. Using sheet masks balances and cleanses the oils on your face and helps to reduce it from overproducing them. It is a very good source of hydration for your skin.

6. Using sunscreen is preconditioned. Sun can cause most of the damage to your skin surface in long run, besides just giving you unwanted tan lines. No matter what type of skin you have, using sunscreen is a must, but not all sunscreens are good for oily skin.

They can make your skin greasier and can clog the pores which will only worsen your condition. To make sure that never happens, use oil-free or non-oily sunscreens.

In my opinion, the best way to get instant hydration will be sheet masks. They give an instant glow to your face and another thing you should always invest your money in is will be face serums.

Incorporate these few steps in your daily skincare routine and you will be doing a great favor to your skin. Apart from using products and doing things from outside. Your insides should also be happy, and that includes your mind and soul. Be gentle to yourself and remember, stress is your biggest enemy. A happy mind and soul lead to happy and youthful skin.
